Citizens share light-rail input on route, economic development
Evelyn Childers, a nominee for the Regional Transit Alliance Board of Directors, participated in a light-rail community meeting at the Kansas City North Community Center on April 22. KCATA and Kansas City, Mo., hosted a series of meetings in four areas — north, downtown, midtown and east — to get citizen recommendations on economic development, street alignment and stop locations for the proposed light-rail spine. Follow-up meetings will report the results Aug 18–21. Childers lives in Kansas City in Clay County.
Support adequate funding for transit in Wyandotte County
Throughout June and July, the Unified Government will host a series of roundtable discussions and public hearings on the 2009 budget, which includes funding for public transit. These are great opportunities for RTA members and supporters to voice support for adequate funding of public transit in Wyandotte County and the importance of UG Transit in a regional transportation system. KC voters pass bus sales tax
On April 8, voters in Kansas City, Mo., passed a 3/8-cent sales tax to help fund the bus system for 15 more years. The tax amounts to about $22 million per year.
