Construction will begin this spring on the new Christopher S. Bond Bridge across the Missouri River, replacing the Paseo Bridge.

Since last Fall, RTA board members have been working on ways to ease congestion resulting from the project. We've met with representatives of MoDOT, Mid-America Regional Council, KCATA, and Paseo Corridor Constructors (the team selected to build the new bridge).

We want to see a unified, regional response to handling traffic to minimize construction-related disruptions, and we want increased use of transit and ride-sharing to be part of the solution. After all, it's people who need to cross the river, not cars. We're also working on some positive and innovative incentives for people who ride the bus or share the ride.

Getting across the river is essential for a lot of people. On the other hand, some cross-river trips may be avoidable.

Here's a useful rule of thumb: If you're stuck in congestion, you're part of the problem. If you relieve congestion by riding transit or sharing the ride, you’re part of the solution.
