Regional Transit Alliance endorses Kansas City’s Question #1

February 19, 2008

On February 15, the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance (RTA) approved a resolution in support of Question #1 calling for the renewal of the 3/8-cent sales tax dedicated to city transit. The current sales tax, due to sunset in April of 2009, funds the operation of Kansas City, Missouri’s bus service provided by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA).

“Without the renewal of the city sales tax, the core of regional transit will be severely crippled,” says Margie Richcreek, chairperson of the RTA. “The KCATA service in Kansas City serves 50,000 daily riders, 73 percent of whom are going to work or school. It is unimaginable what would happen if this valuable community resource were to be drastically reduced.”

The Board of Directors urges the citizens of Kansas City to vote “Yes” for Question #1 on April 8, 2008.

The Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality public transit services throughout the 8-county metropolitan area. For further information about the RTA visit www.kctransit.org.
