Exciting times ahead for transit in the Kansas City region

February 25, 2008

This is an exciting time for public transit in the Kansas City region, and we of the Regional Transit Alliance want you to be a part of it.

Two major ballot issues come to mind: renewal of the sales tax for bus service and adoption of a light rail plan. On April 8, voters in Kansas City, Mo., will be asked to renew a 3/8-cent sales tax for bus service. This renewal will continue the current level of transit service and will be critical to expanding service in the region.

Only Kansas City residents will be able to vote on the sales tax renewal; however, anyone in the region can help get the word out. We will contact you again in the near future to ask for your help in promoting this renewal. Activities may include helping with special events at park-and-ride lots, handing out flyers at major transit stops, get-out-the-vote calling, and more. RTA also looks forward to your involvement as planning goes forward for a light rail system that will go on the ballot in Kansas City later this year.

In addition, we will have ongoing volunteer opportunities for routine administrative tasks here at the RTA office located at 10th and Main in downtown Kansas City. Let us know if you are willing to assist with either of the ballot issues and/or volunteer tasks at the RTA office. Contact us at 816-471-6808 or rta@kctransit.org.
