Light rail and regional transit work together
July 18, 2008
We are very pleased by the breadth and depth of interest in expanding and improving public transit throughout the region, as shown by the regional transit proposal that embraces Smart Moves and is being developed by Clay, Jackson and Platte counties. We strongly support the light-rail project that the ATA is preparing, which will be on the ballot in Kansas City in November. We see these two efforts as entirely complementary, since the light-rail project currently being planned will function as the "spine" for an expanded regional transit system.
There are opportunities for citizens to listen and be heard on both of these transit issues:
- Light Rail Spine in KC - Citizens may attend the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (Thursdays at 10:00 a.m., 10th floor) and City Council meetings (Thursdays at 3:00 p.m., 26th floor) during July.
- Smart Moves Regional Transit Proposal - A series of public meetings are scheduled in Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties during July and August
