Wyandotte County Sunday bus service is back!
New route serving downtown KCMO and Village West starts Sept. 28
(Kansas City, Mo. - September 23, 2008) The long-anticipated return of Sunday bus service in Wyandotte County, Kan., is coming this weekend. On Sept. 28, the Unified Government Transit (UGT) and Kansas City Area Transportation (KCATA) will jointly launch the new #101-Minnesota/State Ave. route for operation between downtown Kansas City, Mo., and Village West seven days a week.
Last month, Unified Government Mayor Joe Reardon announced securing a two-year federal grant totaling $452,800 that will be used to fund demonstration Sunday bus service in Wyandotte County. The two-year CMAQ (Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality program) federal funding was awarded to Unified Government Transit through a competitive local process administered by the Mid-America Regional Council. Riders will also have Minnesota/State Ave. bus service on major holidays later this year, namely Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The new #101-Minnesota/State Ave. combines the current #101-Minnesota and #114-State Ave. routes to create one route. As a result, customers will be able to ride from KCATA’s 10th & Main Transit Plaza in downtown KCMO to Village West and back without needing to transfer at the Indian Springs Transit Center in Kansas City, Kan.
In addition, customers will still be able to board and exit #101 buses at major KCK locations such as downtown KCK, Indian Springs Transit Center, KCK Community College, Providence Medical Center, the Unified Government Courthouse Annex, and along State Ave. and Parallel Parkway between Village West Parkway and 82nd St.
The new Minnesota/State Ave. route will also operate new hours during the week and on Saturdays. Customers will now have service on:
- Sundays hourly from 9 a.m to 7 p.m.
- Weekdays every 30 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Weeknights hourly from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Saturdays hourly from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The existing #114-State Ave. route, which is provided by Unified Government Transit on weekdays and KCATA’s Metro service on weeknights and Saturdays, will be replaced by the new and enhanced #101-Minnesota/State Avenue route operated by KCATA.
New online Minnesota/State Ave. schedules are available at www.kcata.org and printed schedules are displayed at Metro schedule rack locations throughout Kansas City, Kan.
