Submit feedback about public transit service cuts and fare hikes
March 30, 2009
KCATA is proposing to cut Metro transit service, and Johnson County Transit is proposing to increase fares for The JO. We encourage citizens to attend public meetings or submit comments to the transit agencies about these proposed changes.
Kansas City Area Transportation Authority
While we regret the projected cuts in service, we recognize that they are necessary in response to Kansas City, Mo., budget cuts. It's ironic that KCATA is having to raise fares by 20 percent and cut service by 10 percent when it should be lowering fares and increasing service. It's also ironic that part of the reason for the cuts is that the city is diverting additional half-cent sales tax money from transit to traffic signals. The world needs more transit and (arguably) fewer traffic signals. We encourage our members to comment.
